Update: Faster Decoding, Smoother Scrolling, Fewer Glitches
Update: Faster Decoding, Smoother Scrolling, Fewer Glitches
We just finished work on one of the most thorough optimization passes Fonix One has ever had. This update was all about making what's already there faster, smoother, and more reliable.
Here's what changed under the hood.
Snappier audio decoding
We reworked the hottest parts of the audio engine, the code that runs thousands of times a second while your music plays:
- Opus got the biggest win. A rewrite of its core math skips roughly a third of the heavy calculations in one key stage, so it decodes with real headroom to spare.
- FLAC decoding is leaner in several places, from bit unpacking to the filtering math.
- AAC now uses a fast lookup table for its most common decoding step.
- MP3, WAV, and M4A all picked up smaller speedups too.
More decoding headroom means fewer chances for the audio buffer to run dry, which translates directly to steadier playback, especially on high-bitrate tracks.
Bugs squashed
A few gremlins have been sent packing:
- M4A tracks no longer play at the wrong pitch after certain track changes.
- Switching straight into an Opus track without pausing used to cause a brief speed/pitch hiccup and dropouts. Fixed: track changes now correct themselves instantly.
- Occasional Opus dropouts with animated wallpapers are gone; the display now yields gracefully to audio when things get busy.
- FLAC playback reliability and a couple of edge cases in podcast downloads and file uploads were tightened up as well.
Smoother on-screen
The interface got some love too:
- Library and Play Queue scrolling are smoother and lighter on the system.
- The spectrum visualizer and screen transitions now draw more efficiently, freeing up the processor for what matters, the music.
Tested twice over
Every single change was first proven bit-for-bit identical in output on a dedicated test bench, then confirmed on real hardware. Nothing shipped on a hunch, if it's in this version, it's been verified end to end.
We're looking forward to bringing you the Fonix One very soon and more responsive than ever. As always, thanks for being part of the journey. 🎶
